I was just wondering what the max. EGT is for subaru.
Also wondering how to make sure the EGT won't go to high.
Can anyone comment on this subject with some good descent info?
I thought that 925 degrees celcius is the max for an subaru but not sure.
I've been playing with an ECU and noticed that the EGT goes above the 925 degrees at 1.5 bar around 7000 rpm. The egt-probe is in the uppipe just behind the collector. The Exhaust manifold is from Gt spec. and we were running little timing and an AF of 11.1:1 If i kept the AF around 10.6:1 at high revs the max EGT i've seen was 850-875 degrees.
I have kept the timing pretty low, if i compare it to my own ignition on the Link, and thought that this might be the issue. Did not tried a detcan yet and adjusted the timing according to the knocklink.
Shortblok is an crawford/axis setup with an CR of 8.5:1

from my limited understanding of the matter lean running is worst culprit where EGT is concerned. throw some more fuel in to the map to cool it down.
I'm sure I will be corrected and suitably scorned for talking about things I know little (or nothing) about though....

i can keep the EGt lower as the 925 degrees if i throw in some more fuel only this won't make any power. And i wanted to create a powerband from 4000 till 8000 rpm.
If i lean the mixture there is definately some power gain but the EGT raises above the 925 degrees. I did not advance the ignition because we mapped on a knocklink.
Next stap i will do is use a det can and see how much advanced ignition we can run, but i do not know if this also reflects the EGT. So if anyone has some ideas or experience on this please share

Where are you measuring the EGT, and just how high is it going ?
Unless you have checked the knockLink against "det cans", and correctly adjusted the sensitivity, I would not rely on it for mapping.
Mark.

Mark,
i'm measuring the EGT in the bottom of the uppipe.
I got off the gas at 7000rpm in 6th gear and have then an EGT of 925-950 degrees celcius. I think the ignition is way to late but have not got to chance to use det cans. So detcans is the first thing to use for a proper ignition and keep the fuelling till then pretty rich. I didn't know that ignition affected EGT as well

tuned the car with a detcan and the EGT stays stable now. Knocklink definately needs some adjusting. EGT is now 850degrees Celcius. So time to lean out the mixture a bit the next comming days.
