Default Question about 2.5L engines #13524

I love the power delivery of my MY01 WRX but want more, however having previously had a TD05 powered MY93 WRX I'm not keen on the idea of reintroducing the lag.

Is there a turbo that when paired with the 2.5 bottom end would spool up like a TD04, make load of mid-range torque and still move enough air to feed the bigger engine up to 7000rpm? i.e. Could I get the same power characteristics but +25% (OK, obviously less but you know what I mean).

The td05 will probably do just that..

With the 2.5litre engine, the increased CC's mean the turbo spools quicker due to the extra exhaust gasses.

Thats what I hoped. Anyone out there done this? I reckon as a road car it would be the perfect set up. Although 562.5bp would probably make an entertaining commuter too...

done quite a few of these in various states of tune..............even with a TD05/06 the spool is around 2600rpm and full boost of 1.6bar at just over 3000rpm.............extremely torquey and pretty much no lag

not done a one with VF35, hiowever recently finished a customers car using a VF34 and various other std'ish parts (as this is what the base car featured, and we've basically simply substituted the 2.5 for the original 2.0 bottom end, to suit the customers budget, aspirations)

even on a 'running-in' map extremely torquey with basically no lag at all.........will be able to comment better when its returned to be finalised sometime in july..........

my td05/2.5 feels just right. you feel extra torque pulling from 1500 . my rev limit set to just over 6k. sweet spot is now 4400 compared to 5500 on the 2L.
if you liked the td04/2L, yul want to get in under the bonnet and have sex with the tdo5/2.5L. if i wanted 7k id consider a bigger turbo to keep temperatures down

If you want a newly rebuilt tdo5/20g pm me, i have one going, the only slight niggle, is that two of the turbo-up-pipe bolt holes are broken, but that minor niggle could be addresed by making it up with some sort of chemical metal stuff...... cheaper than a rebuilt price,... but comes with no gaurentee, but you only have to see it to realise that it's fresh! Andy F did it!!
