Default Cleaning your Idle Speed Control Solenoid

I did this little job yeaterday to cure a hiccup at idle, discovered something that no one has posted yet... The plunger can be separated from the motor for cleaning and lubrication - heres how....

Disconnect the multi plug and remove the idle speed control valve unit from its housing - re-connect the multi plug and put the valve inside a container. Switch the ignition to on (dont start the engine) switch it back off again. Repeating this several times causes the plunger to separate from the motor. Retrive the plunger and spring from the container, and get stuck in with brake cleaner. The threaded part of the plunger should be lubricated with a little grease before re-assembling the parts.

The plunger can be pushed back into the motor using hand pressure - if you have reasonably strong hands.

Didn't totally cure my problem, but there was a lot of Carbon on there for a motor that is only four years old with low milage.

Cheers,
TT
