hi i am just about to buy a sti version 7 the car is on a private plate and the guy tells me it should be on a 51 plate problem is on the log book (v5) it only has the year first registered in the uk (2003) and nothing about year manufactured is this normal for a import just i have no way of knowing when it was first built so it could be on an x y 51 or 02 plate how can i find out as he is leavin the private plate on.

 

o the vin plate is a model code which will tell you the exact model and year of manufacture...or at least model year as cars were updated towards the end of each year i think,so might say it was actually made the year before its actual model update...makes sence i hope

 

Alternatively, instead of looking at the Applied Model number, look at the tag on the base of the seatbelts, this will give you the year and month of manufacture (assuming its a JDM model GDB).
