Default Is Tesco 4 Star 99 RON?

I noticed that my local Tesco is selling 4 Star - Is this 99 RON ?

(They only had Unleaded, Diesel and 4 Star) Or do I need to look at another store for the Super Unleaded?

How much more 'super' than 99 do you expect to find

I use it whenever possible and find it at least as good as Optimax, but much cheaper.

4 star was leaded petrol - they might be selling LRP, which will still knacker your catalyst. It might well be 99 RON, but it's not suitable for a scooby.

Their 99 octane Super is on a green pump and is labelled as unleaded with a big round '99' label. I've just started using it in my STI and it's good stuff, though there's only a handful of places doing it right now.

Sorry if that was misleading

The 99 octane SUL at Tesco is to replace the LRP. Like AndyC says, it's limited outlets at present.

Thanks for clearing this up for me.

I was using 97RON but I think I will switch to Shell Optimax which I understand is 98RON (93 WRX Import)

Cheers

For the sat nav owners: here are POIs for the 12 Tesco garages. There's also an up-to-date list of Shell garages (thanks to Robocop) and a perhaps slightly less up-to-date set of franchised Subaru dealers and independent specialists.

Add to that list the newly re-opened station in Slough

I spoke to Tesco customer services about this a while ago and they told me 99 may roll out across the country but, for now, it's being installed on a demand basis. The woman said if a petrol station manager gets enough requests from drivers, there's a far higher likelihood of it arriving sooner rather than later.

I'm in and out of my Tesco garage every day now, queueing with a nic-nac and asking if they have any of that high octane stuff the stores down south are getting? Anyone want to buy unopened chewing gums, crisps, a toothbrush, or snazzy fluffy gnome for your dashboard, lol?
