Default 350 BHP......what needed?

Hi, I have a '93 wrx (standard) and am writing to find out what work I need to carry out to the engine to acheive a fairly solid 350BHP?
And any idea as to how much it would cost? (parts only.....Got a mate to do work for me ).

cheers guys
Mark.
ps anyone got any big brakes going cheap?

Turbo (not sure what one yours has?) £300-900
Full de-cat £500
Headers (not essential but allows power to be made at lower boost) £300
Injectors £250
Fuel Pump £90
Fuel pressure regulator £200
Induction kit £100-200
Better Intercooler £200-400
Mappable ECU (not sure what options are available for MY93) £750-£1000?

Plus all safety/monitoring gadgets inc knocklink, AFR gauge, boost gauge.

Think thats about the lot from memory. Whether you make the power or not will depend on the condition of your engine too.

Decent clutch & gearbox!!!

i got same motor mate.

so far mods for power:
HKS d/pipe
z4 ecu - scooby ecu 15.5psi
hks induction & cold feed
new coil packs/ngkpfr7b plugs
afterburner centre & vortex angled b/box
Lightweight GFB pulleys
Exedy lightweight 4.5kgs flywheel

Also got a hks f/c/d and jw manual boost. Had it running with them on at 19 psi and prosport rr @ 317.4 bhp with 302lbs torque which i thort was pretty good. was detting though - turned out to be my big ends going and the knocking was causing the knock link to flash like a crimbo tree!!, was gutted!

other bits:
ACT organic race clutch
rebuilt g/box
walbro 400hp in tank fuel pump (what it says on my jap innovations receipt!)
rebuilt engine (crank, conrods, head gaskets, uprated big & main bearings, cambelt etc most parts from dave @ api - top helpful guy!
tarox discs/ferodo pads/goodridge pipes
samco engine pipes
forge alloy header tank
oil catch can
pretty much most sensors apart from maf replaced with new

suspension;
PI springs
anti-lift kit
arb's to front & adjustable rear & drop links for front & back
front top strut & 4 point lower brace
there is more but cant quite remember at the mo!!! had a busy day today!

On the way:
harveys fmic kits (will get there eventually harvey )
bigger injectors & ported original headers from harvey or set from shop cant work out whats best for car yet.
Apexi power fc and sell hks fcd & mb controller.
from that hoping to get the max from the old girl about 330 at a guess. dont know if they can take much more i.e the TD05 and standard internals/gearbox etc or for how long.

hop that gives you an idea.

BUT!!! before i forget - you need the gauges etc - knock link, afr/lambda sensor etc to keep an eye on things while your driving. I have knock link, afr, boost, and volts, need oil pressure and or temp to finish off!

Yes forgot to mention that the lifespan of your gearbox will shortened.

Budget a couple of hundred quid for s/h replacement ones or £700+ for slighter stronger STi box

Mine gets mapped this friday
car is a 95 sti2

Mods I have done......
255lph fuel pump £50
parallel fuel line mod £10
550 injectors £250
tubular headers £200
Pfc & commander £400
hybrid FMIC £360
VTA oil breathers £5
sundries ( guess ) £30
mapping £300
decat downpipe £110
home made intake heat shield £10
PFR7B plugs £33
manual boost controller £30
AFR & boost gauge £100

total £1888

managed to keep my O/E FPR with my parallel fuel line conversion which im told should be fine with my spec. ( better than a FSE FPR anyway )

Car allready had when I bought it.......

Blitz Nur Spec R decat mid & backbox
Apexi induction
Forge VTA DV
4.5 kg flywheel
AP organic clutch
Subaru 4 pots
tarox discs
braided hoses
TD05 16g

Hoping for 350BHP, which is possible with a TD05 16g but think I will be lucky to get that.
Was going to put on a TD05/06 20g but dont think my gearbox would take it. Maybe later when I can afford to buy both.

Juliano
Think you should get 350 no problem with an 18g

BOB'5
Did I read on here you got 350 with a 16g ?
Think I also read your from Coventry. me too. Would be nice to compare motors sometime. Do you ever go to the COV meets?

Yes mate. Got 352.7 bhp but I think the car was slipping.

Dont really get the time for meets.

I think the std 16g is a lovely street turbo.
