Juddering when cold + Air box removal - MY00
Firstly I have a juddering when cold - It seems to go away once warm but still there is a slight mis every now and then.
I have changed the MAF and checked the lambda and that seems fine. I have also cleaned the idle control valve with no joy.
I wondered if this could be a spark plug problem? Is this likely? The car seems to run well when accelarating.
Also I understand the air box needs to come out - Am I missing something cos I cant get the bloody thing out!!!! Any help would be appreciated.
Also what are Subaru dealers like at diagnosing these kinds of problems?
Cheers in advance.

The juddering is normal.
Double clutch until the car has warmed up and it will be alot smoother.
Yes the air box needs to come out, as does the washer bottle. You will need to release the jubilee clip the connects the air box to the engine. You can actually get away with just removing the air box lid.

I dont mean clutch judder when pulling away. I mean when stationary and idling the engine judders - like it is not settled. Once warm there is a mis every few seconds or so.

Very similar symptons for my P1.
Feels very hesitant / jerky between 2 and 3K revs.
Once on boost feels a lot better.
Fortunately its covered by extended warrenty at the moment.
Its been to my local subaru dealer twice now, had a new maf and lamda o2 sensor. Still no change. Booked back in next Monday.
I thought it may be a plug or lead breaking down but only seems to run badly from a cold start so I guess that rules out plugs and leads??
If / when it is finally resolved I'll post the cause.
May be of some help.
Graham.

I've always been led to beleive its the 'Closed Loop Lambda' system operating when the motor is cold. Basically (I think!) the car is continually adjusting the Air/Fuel mixture using the Lambda sensor when cold.
Of course, the Lambda doesn't operate effeciently/properly til its quite warm, so until this occurs, you get the horrible ' surging/hesitancy ' sensation of the car.
Please correct me if I just got that all wrong!

same for me
I've got the same symptoms, and I think it is still there when warm, but only on low revs. It's more noticeable when cold and engine seems to 'miss' every two seconds ... It is that regular. When on the power it's not noticeable.
I've changed the lambda with no luck... Am about to check the MAF and also plugs... I'll let you know the results...
MY00 classic btw.
cheers
