YE FOUND IT SEEMS OK, THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS ITS OVERHEATING, NO HOT AIR COMING FROM THE VENTS SO I THINK IT MAY BE A BHG, IVE NEVER THRASHED IT IVE ALWAYS DRIVEN STEADY AND I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED, A FEW WEEKS AGO THE COOLING FANS WERE NOT WORKING AND GOT THEM FIXED, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED THEN BUT SINCE THE FANS STARTED WORKING AGAIN I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, I THINK ITS BASICALLY F**KED COULD THERE BE ANY OTHER EXPLENATION FOR OVERHEATING AND HEATER NOT BLOWING HOT AIR??

IF IT WERE A BHG WOULDNT THERE BE WATER IN THE OIL? OR LACK OF COMPRESSION?

ill pay £100 he he,

i have to be careful with what i say, cos some know it all keeps trashing my advise etc..

my head gaskets went, was blowing some warm airm but not hot,

the oil did not mix with the water...so that didnt help looking there,
the collant level didnt even drop.

but the engine temp needle sometimes shot up to max in about 2 secs, then if i put my foot on the gas, it would drop to normal again.

i also noticed a funney knocking noise, also the pipes didnt seem to pressurise at all

took it back to the garage, they fitted new gaskets (both sides) all is well.

it was a really weird one, as most people seem to realt the gaskets with oil in the water and loosing coolant, but mine did not have these at all.
the noise it was making turned out to be the gaskets knocking as when i put my foot down, they where releasing pressure.

ye the needle will come back down to normal,
but be careful,
i was ok, my car was under warranty, so i didnt giv a **** if the engine blew cos i only had it for 2 weeks,

if i where you i wouldnt drive it till its sorted, but if you have too, dont drive on boost. it will just cause other prbs,

i think headgasket job is about £250 but not too sure, depends if one gasket has gone or 2? plus the heads may need to be skimmed in case they have warped.

do you have a warranty or anything?

I honestley think its just the head gasket/s as you have the same prb i had (a weird one)

Im no mechanic though, i just go from past experiance, id say its only the head gaskets and dont think its anyhting else,
but you really need an expert to look at ot for you, they know best,

plus when it gets done, make sure they actually change the gaskets, ive heard too many stories about mechanics just pouring stuff into the eninge thats a temp fix, you know like rad weld does.

heater not blowing hot air means top-up your cooling system. two poss reasons for prob could be faulty stat or pressure cap on water fill. a replacement cap is cheap and stats are about 15 i think.

how do i check the matrix is okand make sure theres no airlocks in the system?

leakage yes. that pressure cap is where u top up. you will need to top up the reserve also. this is just behind the nsf headlight, has yellow cap and white filler neck.

top up on flat surface, with heater on full heat and engine idling but COLD. when system wont take more water refit pressure cap. run engine til stat opens(bottom rad pipe will get hot). switch off, allow to cool down, remove pressure cap and top up if nec.keep an eye on temp guage all the while.

Default coolant

ive recently topped up the coolant bottle (behind the lamp passenger side) 2 weeks ago, funny thing is its still 'FULL' and its been pretty hot the last 2 weeks.
whats going on? is there a pump or what?
the water still seems pretty clear i.e. theres no trace of the blue coolant in there.
cheers

oh, also have you made sure you have no air in the system since topping back up after changeing the thermo?

its easier if you use a bottle with the bottom cut off, and use some tape to tape it to the header tank, fill the tank, then start the engine,
keep fillingn the tank, and keep the engine ticking over, eventually it will stop taking water.
dont worry about overfilling, you have areserve tank that will take care of this,

keep engine running until the water stops bubbling,
if the water starts to come out like lava out of a volcano, or carries on to bubble, its also another sign of a blown head gasket.

BUT IM NO MECHANIC, SO WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW!

just noticdd you said that there is no trace of coolant? there should be!, make sure you put the appropiate amount of coolant back in, it will protect your engine from over heat, and also stop it from freezing in winter.
this is very import!

swift, its meant to be full. its there for expansion of coolant under pressure. it gives it back into the cooling system when cooling and as required.

Default always check the obvious

wel i put it all back together again this morning, i realised last night that when i took the radiator off no water came out, all this time its been overheating and all ive been doing is filling the engine with water and not the rad, so i filled the rad this morning via the large top hose and put it back on, and to my extatic relief i got hot air coming through the heater, so at the end of it it was just due to loss of water but not realising you cant fill the radiator from the filler cap, the rad has to be filled independantly, so it goes to show just check the obvious 1st.
thanks everyone for your help.

there must be a blockage. you shouldnt have to fill rad independently.

if theres a blockage then when temps rise and stat opens coolant from rad can not circulate into the engine and so engine coolant boils creating huge pressure and ejection of coolant from the weakest point. maybe thats how you lost your coolant the first time. keep an eye on things.
