If the chip is soldered in, you won't be able to get it out.
The holes are whats known as 'plated through'. So when the chip was sldered in, the solder flows right through sticking to the lenght of the pin and hole.
Even with the most proffesional solder sucker you stand a good chance of damaging the board and/or chip when removing.
I wouldn't want to do it and I wouldn't even get anyone at work to do it (who build Electronic for EuroFighter). It's a very trick job.
It's a lot easier to desolder the board when it's just a blank location.
P.S That is probably some dodgey 100RON map in there, so you'd be a fool not to bin it and pic up cheap U8 or W6 from Ebay.....

As soon as J1 is cut on the main board it will not matter what ECU it is as this makes the ECU read the external ROM (Scoobyecu) so should be fine - the only problem you would possibly encounter is trying to run the car with J1 in place ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

IMP-ECU-V7/7D is one of my very early 15.5psi maps. I'm not sure if it will work O.K in a 3B ECU though. The 3B is from a WRX Wagon and these have always been a bit of a strange one i.e I use a Wagon base map for these as sometimes they can go into limp home with the saloon base map.
You'd be better off picking up a U8 or W6.
I have a U8 with a socket already fitted and tested. Ping a mail to staylor@compd.com with an offer, and we may be able to do a deal.

I've got chips out like that ![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Not to recover it though. I've always cut the chip out first, then recut the legs left sticking out component side down to the pad, then de solder as you normally would a filled hole, from the solder side, the rest of the leg should suck out with the solder.
Very tricky but do-able with good equipment

I can remove that IC for you, it will need a specialist de-solder station to remove it cleanly, send me a PM and i will give you my contact details.

It can be done, but personally I wouldn't want to risk damaging the board. It's old technology double sided FR4. the tracks can be pulled off quite easily, even when just removing the J1 link resistor.
I've removed a chip/adaptor before, but on a mates ECU. But he had a spare anyway just incase we shagged it.
