iirc 2 and 2.5 are replacement chips but 3 is a custom remap on your own ecu. Not sure about 2 and 2,5 but for 3 you need to purchase a software license (normally in with the price by the mapper). Once your ecu is licenced you can have it remapped and just pay for the mapper time iirc.

Hi Ollie

The numbering of the "Tek" remap..2, 2.5, 3.0 is buried in history and best forgotten ..LOL It realtes to "off the shelf" maps .. None of which were replacement ECU's

EcuTeK as a company supply software and hardware to re-map ECU's........ to recoup their development costs they have to charge the mappers each time they first change an ECU (the licence), it's simple economics !!

If you go back to the same mapper for some changes then you pay for the mappers time only......in my case Bob "Guru" Rawle

The difficulty arises AFAIK if you change mapper who cannot see the changes to the ECU and has to start from scratch again !!

Hope this helps

Right ok tah. I did find some more info on it, once licenced the licence follows the ECU and not the owner. It costs less to get it remapped once its licenced.

It is basically a map that is placed over your current ECU map, it isnt a replacement board.

Thats it so far.

If i buy a TEK3 mapped for someone elses car can i use it in mine (carefully i suppose) until its remapped for mine?
