Default Advice on getting 350BHP

Hi guys

At the moment I have a 93 WRX

Modifications to the car are as follows:

Blitz induction kit
Hybrid FMIC
Full decat exhaust from the turbo back
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Power FC Mapped to 1.15 bar
Apexi AVCR

I have not had the car rolling roaded, but I would expect the car is putting out in the region of 280BHP ? The car is 235BHP standard.

I have an SX fuel regulator and a set of 440cc injectors waiting to get fitted and then I am going to get the car mapped again hopefully to around 1.3 bar of boost.

What more do I need to make around 350BHP ? Will my engine take this sort of power on standard internals ?

Thanks in advance.

Start with the stuff that makes you stop first, the brakes, the standard set up isnt good enough for a sport let alone a WRX, you need a decent 4 pot setup, big discs (308mm are sufficient if you dont do track), then think about adding the power, but be warned, 350bhp with 300+lbs of torque can make what you want to do a little on the expensive side....

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply. I only listed the modifications relevant to the power I currently have. The car is modified in other areas too. I have 4 pots with P1 pads up front, standard 2 pots on the back with drilled and grooved vented disks and also uprated brake lines all round. I don't do track or anything like that and feel the brakes are pretty much up to what I use them for.

If 350BHP is too much to achieve what more do I need to do to bring the car up to say 330BHP then ?

Here is a few pictures of the car, the other mods are bodywork ones which you can see in the pics.

Cheers

Headers too? Otherwise it sounds like its more or less covered (assuming its a TD05).

How much you'll get out of it will depend on the condition of the engine too.

Yeah it is a TD05 on the car. How much horsepower will the headers give me ? Don't you loose the flat 4 burble with headers ? Can you recommend any ?

David @ Api, what do you have in mind ? I am up in Scotland so your quite far from me to swing in past. I am interested in what input you have though, as long as it is not a 2.5l conversion !

cheers

I was thinking of aftermarket headers such as Gruppe-s V2. You wont loose the flat4 grumble....just more of a roar on boost

Headers allow you to flow more air at lower boost than OE headers

eg. 1.5bar on headers have said to be comparable to 1.7bar without.

It may spool slightly later though but worthwhile IMO.

I think Harvey will do ported headers on exchange?
It is a big step from 300 bhp to 350+ and the engine can be a thirsty compromise in the end.
On a hard run I can get into single figures....
Can't help but feel the Stiv3 onwards engine is the best starting pointie: Rev band/solid tappets/cams/TMIC etc etc.

Graham.

90degree TD05 will be slightly limiting in that position would it not?

Ideally do a front entry conversion on the inlet manifold, port and polish the standard headers and fit the bigger injectors you will easily be looking on the door of 330bhp with a remap. IMO.

90deg entry will make a difference, but only when chasing the last few horses.

You wont hit your target on 1.3bar imo. I hit it with Gruppe-s headers+NF+1.5bar

Your gearbox will be on borrowed time at 1.5bar.
