Default What's Been Done To My ECU

My car was supposedly 'chipped' by a previous owner . I decided to remove the ECU & check out what was fitted .

My ECU

These security seals with an 'S' symbol were intact .

Upon opening I discovered that a smaller circuit board had been added & secured to the spare chip socket with double sided foam tape ( top left in pic ) .

A close-up of the small board .

The 4 wires from the small board were crudely soldered onto the pins that go out to the multi-plug connectors & a blob of white silicon added for some reason .

Notice the small blue felt-tip marks on some components . All of the chips on the main board had this mark .

Finally this was written inside the cover .

So any opinions on what's been done .

Bearing in mind that the seals were intact I think this is an official Subaru mod . Maybe there was a problem with some ECU's & they were checked out ( hence the blue marks ) and then an extra board was fitted to repair it .

The problem with this theory is the crude way it was fitted & the swastika symbol written in the cover along with the date .

The good thing is that I now know that there's an empty chip socket to fit a VOS chip .

Is that the 'S' from the Superchips logo?

Think that this is a superchip, I have just a few days ago contacted them and asked them what they do. It involves a bleed valve, and an extra circuit which fools the ecu into supplying more fuel. Did a post a few dfays ago about it, it is a very crude method I have been told.

Yep That's a superchip.

Looks like a Fuel-Cut defender to me i.e it fools the ECU into thinking you are running stock boost by putting a step in the linear output from the map sensor. Hence allowing you to breach the standard ECU fuel-cut limit.

It probably also has a bleed valve somewhere to increase the boost above standard, or the actuator has been tightened a good few turns to increase the boost.

im sure the superchip did nothing more then bump the fuel cut up anyway?
so everybody is correct

baffles me why they can charge so much for sumthing so gash and cheap

now if only sumbody could explain what has been done to my "standerd" ecu to allow it to run at 1.44 bar boost without fuel cutting i would be very happy

if it is a superchip, not bad, a circuit board with few resistors and a 50p bleed valve for £511. bargain! me thinks me is in the wrong business!!!

The car came with a larger turbo fitted but it was only boosting to 0.9 bar . I fitted a Dawes MBC & I have it set at 1 bar . If I try to set the boost any higher you hit the fuel cut , so either the board is faulty or it doesn't raise the fuel cut . What is the standard fuel cut set at on a MY93 UK Legacy Turbo ?

If I want to remove this is it just a matter of cutting the wires ? I'm planning to fit a VOS chip & I'm worried about the 2 chips not being compatable .

Pull off the white gunge and see whats underneath. I suspect you'll find one of the connector leads cut with the yellow and green wires leading to each side. If so to remove the board you'd remove the 4 wires then bridge across the cut connector lead.
