Default What Turbo

I've got an My99 UK Turbo. It's got a 3"Scorpion full system, K&N and I'm just about to fit an FMIC. I'm buying an ECU with a TEk3 licence so a mapping session will soon be on the cards but I'd like to get a bigger turbo on the case.
It currently makes 261bhp @1.2bar with a top mount and the standard TD04 seems to pull really well. Not laggy at all and seems to pull right through to the red line.
Question is, What turbo should I be looking at getting?

I want to keep the low lag and good bottom end torque but would like a bit more blow!

Answers on a postcard please!

I dont have a postcard, but you should be looking at a td05.
probably stick with the std. 16g version.
about £180 - £200 2nd hand theres tons of them about.

a tried and trusted method if ever there was one

I've seen them make over 370bhp on a fully modified car but 330bhp is a more common figure when mapped with supporting mods and running Optimax.

not a particularly sorted motor either, all DIY'd

I have literally just fitted a TDO5 and secondhand tek 3 ecu....on my my00, seems to be far less laggy than i thought it would be, but maybe thats down to the mapping, i'm gonna see how it runs with the ecu as is, but might get it tweaked at some point to see all the real benefits...

I made 325 BHP on my TD05 16 (supplied by Andy F) on a bugeye with a STi Top mount

I just wonder who's going to map it for you ?? AFAIK you have the licence for ECU but only the original mapper can "see" the map as it stands. Another EcuTeK mapper won't have a licence issue but will have to spend a shed load of time "starting from scratch".

maybe an EcuTeK mapper can step in to help here......

Order of preference
VF35 small exhaust housing spools really quick, 330 ish max realistically, from new age STi 2003/2004 before twin scrolls came along
VF34 slightly bigger exhaust housing, spools a little later than previous, roller bearing, slightly more top end power 330+
TD05 laggiest of the three, biggest exhaust housing of the three but certainly capable of enough power to break your gearbox

Conrad

ECUTEK in the south, Bob Rawle or Pavlo

you could get an mdxxx if you wanted to put a garrett in the stock location, albeit on an IHI exhaust housing I believe.

a good mate has just put a gt30 based garrett on his built motor

IIRC closest mapper to exeter is a choice of 2 in bristol or BRD,bob rawle in swindon. im in torquay and always go to bob

Cheers Dazza.

Have sent BRD an email. It's £395+VAT to remap once you've got the licence!!

Might have to give that a miss....
