Question Induction Kit... Where Does the MAF sensor Go??

This probably seems a really silly and simple question which everyone will know....

Thinking of doing an induction kit, getting rid of the standard Air-Box... on a '97
classsic Sti btw.... have seen many pictures but many have the MAF sensor removed.... wondered how this ios done, unless it is hidden in the pictures....?

Have just seen loads of inductions sytems without a MAF sensor and never asked why?

Cheers in advance....

Charlie

Certain ECU's such as the motec dont need the maf, therefore it is useless and removed.

The standard ecu and the apexi pfc retain the maf sensor, with an induction kit.

Understand now... so im assuming that if you replace the ECU and do an induction system then u eliminate the problem induction kits cause to imprezas... as in failing MAF due to water etc....

Failing mafs due to induction kits are more common with 99/00 cars. Earlier mafs are a lot stronger and cope with induction kits a lot better.

You will need to find a way of stopping the heat soak that you get from induction kits.

Oh right.. so should be ok wit my '97 then... have been looking at the Apexi unit... only the cost really.

Would you say that is is a worth while mod if i do for example the Apexi unit and a cold air feed or is the cost not really worth it?

Will response change or is it in reality just for show.

Cheers banny.....

The Apexi is an excellent choice as that is the induction kit i have on my sti 3, i only paid £25 for it on e-bay.
Coupled with a decent cold air feed and heat management, you will see a noticeable difference.
Throttle response is definitely improved and you will get a lot more induction noise, only negative point is the noise from the dump valve.

The main thing with induction kits is to make sure they are secure. Vibration can damage MAF sensors, which is where most of the bad press for them came from. That and MY99/00 MAFs dying on a regular basis.
