Default Name the part - green bit that goes into gearbox?

Thought I'd be nice and vague

Got my car on a hoist this afternoon to confirm where grease/thick oil is coming from. Not sure exactly whats its called but it seems to be coming from the green part of the driveshaft. Theres some play in it too but seems comparable to play in other side.

Its not the shaft itself or the CV boot (was my first thought)

Also, theres a nut and a gear looking thing on the gearbox? What is it and is it some sort of adjuster?

So, whats the part called and how much is a new one to stop the grease/oil coming out.

Ta!

Picture?
There is a green part to the drive shaft assembly that goes into the box, and this has an oil seal to it (I assume the box is a 5 speeder) located in the gearbox. If this is leaking.....

Sounds about right. I didn't think it was 'box oil becuase it doesn't have that distinct smell box oil has - also it seems alot thicker. Yes its a 5 speed.

So, is it just a case of a new seal or new "green bit" altogether.

it was something to do with the wrong grease or to much put in at the factory and it leaks past a plate in the bottom of the cv joint. nothing wrong with it no parts need to be changed just needs the right grease putting in and a type that doesn't get so runny when hot.

There is a special CVJ grease available for the job which should be used.
I do not know if you can strip the CV joint?
Graham.

The oil in the 'box hasn't gone down on mine. Its too thick and doesn't smell like 'box oil.

Seems more like CV grease to me. Anyway, bee told if I leave it and it loses all the grease it will heat up and damage itself and possibly other parts so may as well get it done. Got a good 6-700 miles to do this weekend so its got to be done.
