Currently your 330bhp flywheel is worth circa 240bhp at the wheels, depending on the rolling road.

400bhp ATW's, is circa 500bhp flywheel, which is going to cost £10k + to do properly.

2.2 ltr engine and stroke it, garret gt30 turbo, par gearset or equivalent, aftermarket ecu, bigger injectors fmic etc etc should be a guaranteed 500bhp/450lbs at the flywheel, and if you dont have many mods on your car there will be the expense of all those as well. a fair few ££££ if your just starting

Thanks for your reply. so you dont think it would be possible to do with the 2.0l engine

remembered a few of the mods i have so far :

tek 3 andy forest
Front entry td05
550 cc injectors
sti 8 tmic
apexi boost controller
walbro pump
fse fpr
organic clutch

would any of this stuff be kept in my quest for 400 bhp ??

If you want a flexible, pleasant and reliable road car leave it exactly as it is and keep some money aside for a gearbox.

If you want an expensive to build, maintain and run car that has an inflexible power band and is unreliable because you are hooked on power like some are on coke then go for it You could probably keep the boost controller and fuel pump

From the hundreds of threads i've read on here over the years, I believe you may need a stronger gearbox and stronger uprated engine internals to go past 350bhp (never mind 500+bhp) on a UK model, (most SN experts would say you would be better off buying some kind of JDM STi and go from there if you want BIG bhp, stronger block, pistons, etc).

Again that's the advice i've read a hundred times on here........

If I was gonna go for big BHP, i'd definitely sell my UK model and get a JDM STi/RA/V-Limited/WRC v6 or similar (im a classic lover).

Hope that helps

Keep what you've got as already said. You have a very good balance of power/drivability/relaibility. You may even be disapointed going for the bigger figures as it may not feel that much different on the road. Hence how some people get hooked on big power..!

There is no mention of any brake/handling mods. As always these would be a great addition, although given your current engine mods I would imagine these have already been done..?

Mate i admire ur aspirations but DO NOT go for such a big power hike unless u have very deep pockets. The EJ20 in all its variations is a lovely unique engine capable of producing large power outputs...but NOT RELIABLY. It will blow at some point (even at the current setup if u dont have reg oil changes and diagnostic rr tuning)

If u really want power/reliability go for a supra single turbo conversion...there are a couple on ebay at the mo!
Dont be greedy..it'll cost you.

nuff said.

Interesting comments from all. I modified my Sti v3 from a 'stock' 314 bhp on straight Optimax @ 1.3 bar, lovely car to drive and hill climb.
Did a bib-full of mods to get about 370 x 340 (and 2K) and although quicker, it is not that pronounced. Engine is not as smooth and is a bit 'gruff' on the road.
When racing it is fabuous; at full voice it howls away and is ballistic, but as a road car it is on the edge. A road run from north Yorkshire to the Midlands left me a bit gruff too

As said, don't be greedy...but a 400 x 400+ 2.5 is just sooo tempting

Graham.

i am happy with the car at the moment but i am thinking of going for more power eventuly. but if it cannot be done so that its fairly reliable then theres not much point really as it is my daily driver

If you don't mind me asking mate, how much has this little lot cost?
What you've got now is what i'm aiming for really in time and got the same car as you to start with.

going from what you have to a higher bhp means sacraficing lag,i have had people pull past me on the motorway due to being in the wrong gear all the time your not going to get low down torque on a big build. if i was to pick my most fun turbo it would be my TD05 as it was great 1.7bar
