Unhappy Your Thoughts Please!

Evening all! (im not an officer)

Thankfully its been a while since I have had to put my own post on here as things have been ok for a while, until now that is.

I have a JDM STi 5 and the top large bore hose at the top of the radiator split when I was booting it and sprayed coolant all over the engine. Ok not a problem. Called my mate up who has blown his scoob engine up and asked to borrow his hose until I ordered a new one. I have drivin the car for nearly 2 weeks with no probs and tonight (at the end of a 1hr journey on motorway) the same hose (the replacemet) has burst again.

Now his car is older than mine so his pipe was probably in worse condition than mine, so is this just a freak coincidence and 2 pipes have burst with age/wear/tear or is there more to it?

My biggest fear is the head gasket has gone. This happened on my last scoob but the radiator burst and not the hoses. This time the radiator appears fine, coolant is not pissing out the over flow pipe, the bottom hose is hot so circulation is ok and no air locks, and hot air is coming out the heaters so all seems ok.

I would be greatful of your thoughts and any experiences you have had. Do you think that there is some abnormal pressure there and any other possible causes?

Last but not least if worst comes to worst and it is the bloody headgasket any idea of cost of repair? I think I may have been a tad ripped off last time!

Thanks for any help received

Stooboy!

No one? Blimey

ok well does the coolant system stay at a constent pressure or does it increase under load when your thrashing it?

Both times the hoses burst under high revs on WOT.

Possible blockage somewhere causing the pressure to increase in the top hose..

The pressure does indeed increase with rpm as the pump is driven faster with rpm increase.

Blockage in the rad?

Hi JGM

You were the first to answer my first ever post dont you know, some 3 years ago and youve done again. Cheerz fella.

Its possible there is a blockage but im pretty sure there isnt. The top and bottm hoses get hot and the fans come on etc. It doesnt over heat either and the temp guage stays as normal. If there is a blockage would it not get bloody hot? as its not passing through the rad?

Im not to sure about the bottom hose? Should it get hot? I would logicaly think it enters the rad hot at the top and comes out cool at the bottom? I know it wont be that cold. The bottom hose is always a bit cooler than the top one but is nice and warm. If there was a blockage would the bottom hose be red hot or stone cold? Im confused.

I prey they were just both naff hoses that burst!

Bizarre..

Well if it is a blockage of a few rows then the other rows would flow the extra water and be less efficient and therefore bottom hole, if it is a blockage partcially in the end tank then the whole rad would flow slower so the bottom hose would be colder..
That is my take on it anyway..

Check the bottom hose doesn't have a kink in it.. unlikely..

Other than that I have no immediate ideas.. hoping it was two duff pipes two just a little unlikely.

www.hdcsubaru.co.uk do them at reasonable cost.

Ok cheers for your help i will order up a couple of pipes and have a look over it at the weekend. Maybe get it tested for head gasket straight away to prevent any more damage if it has gone.

Bloody cars I hate em as much as I love em!
