Cool 2.5 bottom end

As the group buy don't seem to be happening, was just woundering if any of you on here could recommend the best place to get a 2.5 block from for my Sti type R ver4..?
As alot of work on the car has already been done by Teg sport, I've rung them for a price... a standard block ready to bolt to my heads is £1400...
Would like to know what bhp this is gonna be good for, or is it gonna be worth getting one with uprated internals??? If so where from?

About £1300-£1400 for the 2.5 block. Some companies charge about £1800 (think GGR do). 2.5 is short block ready to fit to heads and everythign else.

Uprated pistons - can range from £500 - £800 depending on pistons and depending on rods.

Uprated Rods probably same price as above depending on rods.

When you buy the 2.5 its all good fun. Its when you have to buy all the other cr@p with it that it starts getting more and more. lol

There was a company selling a 2.5 block with uprated pistons for about £1500 I think. I think their was piston failure so they rebuilt the block with uprated pistons and selling like that.

Sorry just found email from supplier. Wasnt the piston it was the rod:

With regards to the rebuilt 2.5L short block....this was from a low mileage
engine that suffered a rod bearing failure. *The bores were given a light
hone to clean them up and bring piston clearance to Wisco's recommended
specs. *The crankshaft, conrods, and all bearings were replaced with new OE
replacement parts. *We are still waiting for the block to come back from the
machinist before we can reassemble so it will be a week or two

Rebuilt 2.5L short block with uprated pistons for £1600 - sorry was £100 quid out!

Cool

My car developed a noisey bottom end bearing about a month ago, due to this its been parked up so no more damage can occur... plus I can do alittle saving....The spec on my Sti type R is half way there really... its got a Gems ECU, anti-lag, full s/s exhaust system, HKS induction kit, uprated fuel pump... Just got a FMIC... its got a STi 8 turbo on, but I think I may need a bigger one as its on its limits really...
In the next few weeks gonna order HKS down pipe and headers, then gonna need a bigger set of injectors from somewhere...
Teg sport are gonna strip the engine once I've took it out and dropped it off with them...
There gonna do some head work, and probabley gonna have there copy of the WRC cams fitted...
For what the 2.5 block is gonna cost compared to fixing my 2.0... I think in the long run in terms of power and reliability, It would be stupid not to go for the 2.5...
Hopefully once all built back up, run in and mapped by Steve Simpson, Should be very quick... I'm hoping, It was quick before, but should be very impressive once this little lot is done...
As Teg sport did alot of work on it last year and know the car... wanna leave the building back up and mapping to them, but if I can pick bits and bobs up cheaper here and there, its a bonus...
So if anyone can help me out finding a new or as new 2.5 block... would be much appreciated...
I'm aming for a good strong 450bhp, do you think this is likely with this spec if I go for a bigger turbo?

Price of £2175 is good for the short block and pistons ONLY.

before id jump in on the 2.5, i would do some looking about mate. I got the 2.5 couple of years ago when my 2.0 blew. If i did it again i would probably stay with the 2.0

Quite a few 2.5s have blown and not sure how many people have really made good power.

Shop about. £1300 for a 2.5 from a Uk company and around £550 for a set of Wiseco or JE pistons and there you go - 2.5 with uprated pistons for £1850

Interesting choice. 2.0 with the usual mods or something different?

See, my problem being my mate owed the car last year... spent near 10K on bits and bobs... now 12 months down the line... bottom end wants rebuilding???
hence why I don't want my bottom end rebuilding, again... want something new, and was thinking with everything already done to the car... would make sence to go for the 2.5 block???

Wont make sense going for the 2.5 block if it keeps blowing. Seen a few US 2.5 blocks blow round here and one owner needed 3 2.5 blocks as they kept blowing (not sure if mapping or block)

Before you jump in the 2.5 though i would really think.

Ollie, 2.0 with uprated pistons, rods maybe crank. Go for a nice 400bhp would be great.

May be best to have a good look at the WRC cam spec, they are more for running => 3 bar boost @ 11.5/1 compression ratio and maxing out around 5 > 6 thousand rev`s due to being strangled by a restrictor, (approx 300ish bhp , 700 !!!!!! nm trq @ approx 5200 )

Have a good one

my mate picked up a 2.5 short motor and a set of uprated pistons from "the Racing line" for £1950 + VAT, it doesnt make that much more power with his existing bits but its the torque that it makes that brings a smile to your face when you boot it.

How much would a 2.0 rebuild cost with uprated pistons, rods crank etc?

Any news on the prices yet mate???
Also, anything else I need to consider block wise... alot of people are saying uprated the pistons and rods? What about the crank and oil pump?
What sort of costs am I looking at... its gotta be reliable...
What bhp figures should I be looking at?

Standard crank is fine , a modded oil pump is a good idea, in my view, the thing to stop them killing no 3 is a high capacity / baffled sump,
Have a good one
