Default diagnostic question

could a diagnostic machine at a dealers tell me if i have a failing coil pack and pinpoint which one it is? and would a dealer be willing to just do a diagnostic on a 95 import?
the reason i ask is.......ive tried everything else.
i have a oldish scoob wrx (my95) which runs more or less spot on.......had a tickover prob but thanks to advice from u guys......its sweet as
my problem is.......if i floor it in first it feels like it misses (almost stalls) and then goes like a scalded cat.
also.......after 5.5k in second and third it feels like its hit the limiter.....just doesnt want to go any further but not a stalling feeling.....just doesnt feel good.
its a standard late 95 wrx, just switched back to standard dump valve and air box, just changed the plugs for some platinum ones and replaced the air filter.
the prob has been there from the start so i cant say its anything ive done........but ive spent far too much time trying to cure this and im afraid its beat me
sorry for the long post but it might have happened to someone who might read this.
bds.

The diagnostics software won't tell you if a coilpack is failing...

Have you pulled the boots off all the coils and looked for cracks in the plastic? It's the only way to be sure.

What's the plug gap set to? I know the manual says 1mm or something, but it's far too much - they should be 0.7mm to 0.8mm.

Best of luck!

shame theres no way of testing em.......
the plugs were .7 and i checked the packs under the rubbers and were ok.
im going to clean the boost solenoid out and have a nose round for anything else i can see.
also.....ive bought 2 coil packs that are good uns (i hope)........might try changing both on one side and see what happens.......and if its no better try the other side.
if its still no better.......would a rolling road session get to the bottom of it? im sure its something and nothing as its 95% fine and i wouldnt have even noticed it if i hadnt had floored it from a rolling start.........
