Default engine cut prob

hi all
got a problem here which is getting rather annoying. my 93 wrx keeps cutting out while driving. it was doing it b4 at speed and on hard acceleration it seemes like the ignition is being turned on and off. like a kangaroo!.now its started to do it at junctions sometimes.it will simply just die.turn the key and fires up straight away??? if you have had this problem or similar please let me know what this annoying prob can be. thanks

The kangarooing on hard acceleration sounds like its overboosting causing fuel cut, have you got a boost gauge?

Deffo sounds like its overboosting if it happens more in cold weather!

Possibly dirty boost solenoid, vac hose, split pipe....

Try a search for causes of overboost.

If you are hitting the fuel cut then its possibily due to overboosting BUT the fuel cut is there for a good reason. If you have a boost guage you will see this. Also does it happen more in 4th and 5th when foot flat to the floor?

Cleaning the boost soleniod and asocatied hoses is a good start and is something you can do yourself, there are a couple of good threads about doing this somewhere on here. But basicly:

connect the green connecters under the dash, turn the ignition on ( you will hear the solenoid clicking away, remove the pipes form it (and the other ends that they connect to) and squirt brake cleaner down each one to make sure they are clear and through the solenoid its self. Turn off the ignition, disconnect the green connecters, reconnect the pipes and you are done.

However cutting out at junctions sounds like a different problem and could well be something like the crank sensor. You could possibly read the ECU for any fault codes (again another search on here will tell about how to do this)

Could also be something like crap in the fuel system or a failing fuel pump.

does the boost guage connect to the middle vacum hose of the 3 on the inlet as i have a spare guage but it only reads up to 1-bar. also is it possible the fuel pump isnt supplying enough fuel as i have changed the standard ecu for one out of a ra??

Yes there is a spare take off at the inlet manifold, as for changing the ecu I haven't got a clue, I would have thought that ws a badish thing though unless you where 100% sure its compatible. You can change the ECU back to the original and see if it makes a difference.
