Default Oddish Bodywork Question

I must first appologise for bringing a vauxhall on to your forum, but I need help.

I recently spent ages cutting and shutting a 98 imprezza rear and bug eye front bumpers to fit my mk3 vauxhall astra, and then found out that fibre glass wont keep it stuck back together for more than about 5 minutes

I tried araldite but it just cracks.

Does any one know what the bumpers are made of, the front seems to be made of different stuff to the back one

Once i find out i can get the appropriate cold weld glue stuff to do the job permanently.

Or can anyone recommend a gluey stuff that will do the job?

Lol... a classic rear rear bumper and a bug eye front on a mk3 astra....

Do i smell a barry boys special in process. Maybe it wont keep stuck for a reason... because its not supposed to happen to a mk3 astra lol....

The reason I went for those particular bumpers was that I wanted a body kit that was of factory smoothness on the surface.

Fiberglass ones (even expensive ones) need shedloads of work to un ripple the surface, I know, I fitted a Mattig style widebody kit to a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am about 10 years ago and by the time i had finished smoothing it out it would have been quicker making it form steel!!

Besides, all Mk3 Asra kits are a bit samey samey. Mate has a 98 classic sport so I did a bit of measuring and lo and behold it was really close, other than the overhang wraprounds which needed shortening by about 15cm at both ends.

Problem now occurs, I prefer the Bugeye front to the Classic front, so I got one of those instrad of the Classic. But it seemed that the newer one is a bit wider than the Classic so I had to narrow it and shorten it.

Does look OK though. Next on the mod front (when wife lets me have the readies!) is to do a bit of floorpan surgery and fit Cavalier 4x4 running gear with a 3.2 Omega V6 for motivation.

Might be able to Keep up with some of you lot then!!!!

See Ya

the 40 year old geezer.
