Default Funny boosting, any ideas?

Hi folks, i'm fairly new to scoobs, but certainly not cars in general lol! But i have been a fan of em for years.

For the last 8 months (and counting) i've been the proud owner of a mint uk 1996 turbo 2000 impreza.

Since i've had it i've had a full 3inch diameter exhaust system and 3 inch downpipe built and installed (zero cats now! woohoo!), and a HKS SSQV (plus it has a nasty K & N induction kit tht was on b4 i got it - not a fan of K & N!), apart from tht, very standard and reliable....but.....

Recently the boost has been getting a bit.....erm......'selective' lol, as to weather it wants to or not lol! What i mean is, if i'm on the motorway already doing say 60-70 and i want to put my foot down - it dos'nt really want to, then when it does start to boost, it is'nt too enthusiastic, but i don't get ant smoke (at any speed/gear) so i'm not sure as to what the heck is up with it.

I remember someone saying it might be due to the "-----" solenoid (fill in the gap lol, bcos i can't remember what he said lol)

Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

The car came with a 12 month warrantee so hopefully its covered, but i'm really not sure what it is, and it can be a bit annoying, - no miss fires or anything either, but could it be the coil packs? (The car has got around 87k on the clock)

Cheers folks

boost control solenoid- do a search on it and you will find details of how to clean it. this is likely to be the culprit.

they get crapped up over time, and quite quickly if you overfill the oil (any more than half way on the dip stick)

Ahhhh hehehe, funny u should mention tht about over filling - only half way!!? oops *huuuge blush* umm, think i'd better drain some out then (whats the best way? - just thru the sump plug, when everythings cold?)

My other thought was to my downpipe folks - its not been on tht long (about 4 weeks-ish), does the boost controller, or anything else turbo-wise need adjusting? - i just simply swopped the thing over (the cat pipe, for downpipe) and then went on my merry way

sump plug is the way to do it. the boost solenoid will need cleaning once you've drained some off.

downpipe shouldn't cause any problems. unplug the sensor from the loom that went to the egt probe in the downpipe as you no longer need it if you de-catted.

I'm a little confused as regards the sensor in the downpipe. The downpipe came with 2 threaded holes - one at the top (just to the rear of the turbo itself, near the intercooler support - i'm sure thts the 02 sensor), and then one at the bottom of the 'elbow' which is towards the bottom of the vehicle (approx half way down the length of the downpipe). Now for the second hole my car did'nt have anything to plug in it, (and had nothing in the original cat in this region either lol) so i had the hole welded up.

top one is lambda, bottom one is EGT 'cat on fire' probe, which had been removed already at a guess
