Removing alternator & PAS pulleys?
Got my new lightweight pulleys to fit but the old ones are being a real ho to remove!
Crank one is 22mm and I've tried breaker bar with car in 1st gear and brakes on but the pulley still turns. A mate says try 5th instead of 1st as the longer gearing will help prevent it turning. Seems to make sense but does anyone else have any cunning ideas or easy ways of locking it? Do I need to loctite it when it goes back on at all? Will sticking the breaker bar on then turning the starter a bit do the job? Would make sense as the engine turns the opposite way to the bolt doesn't it?
Alternator pulley I have no idea how to remove as there are no holes in it so I can't see how I can stop the bugger turning? Think that one is 24mm iirc and it seems pretty solid but I can't grip the pulley as I say.
Thirdly the power steering pulley is a rotter too! It's hella tight!! Have tried sticking a big screwdriver through one hole on it to try and lock it but only succeeded in beginning to bend the metal of the pulley around the hole!!!
Think I'll be ok removing the crank pulley really but it's more that I'm concerned about remving the other two, and then how to tighten up the nice shiny alloy ones without risking damage to them etc

5th for crank pulley.. you might need a puller to get it off once bolt is undo... sometimes they come off by hand sometimes not.
leaving the belt on with car in 5th allows more pressure on others but expect you will turn them against the belt anyway..

I think you'll find there is an alan key hole down the centre of the alternator spindle.Put an alan key in the hole and put a bit of pipe or something similar on the end of the key to give you more leveridge and then turn the nut with spanner while holding the alternator spindle in position.They are tight and ive often found shocking the spanner with a hammer works.

Just had a look at mine to be sure and guess what no key shape down the centre of it,99% of cars ive ever worked on have this and i dont think the scooby does after looking at mine. It must be some thing to do with the japs making it difficult for us.lol
Still leave the belt on and car in gear and try giving the spanner a couple of good hard shocks with a hammer.
