Unhappy Gearbox oil..?

Having checked the gearbox oil on my 05wrx it could do with topping up, however the manual does not recommend the mixing oils of different brands. Therefore, HTF am I supposed to top it up not knowing what's already in..?

Based on the way Subaru seems to be hardlining any warranty claims, in the event of a gearbox issue they'd probably tell me to do one for putting in the wrong brand of oil..!

In legal terms what the manual says goes and in this case it's as clear as MUD, so what do you do..?

I've put stuff in to top it up that i'm pretty sure is not the same as what's in (i.e, fairly cheap stuff). Not had any problems so far.

Yeah mate, I used some Carlube stuff (75/90) - about £7 a litre. Only downside is the tube on the bottle isn't that long so it's a bit of a ball ache getting it in the dipstick tube. Invest in a funnel with a long tube, makes the job 100 times easier (and cleaner).

As long as you put in a synthetic 75w-90 I can't see how warranty would be affected, it's the correct spec.

The problem is Simon that I don't know what Subaru put in at the factory and the manual doesn't recommend mixing brands.

It's probably a semi-synthetic 75w-90.

Not sure what the factory fill product is. Only thing to do is to have it changed out and replaced.

Cheers
