strange noise from gearbox
my car has started making a strange noise in first and reverse.if i pull away in first then let go of the accelerater,letting it coast in gear to a hault it makes a whinning noise.i get the same noise in reverse aswell.?
is this sighns of the gearbox going? im running about 350 ish bhp on a my96 wrx impreza.i was told that im running close to the limits of the gearbox.if it is on its way out.what gearbox could i fit of other imprezas which would be stronger than the wrx one i have got?

Sti5 gearbox for a budget fix, although you will need to get a matching rear diff or swap the front diff ratio. 6 speed is probably a £2.5k upgrade, but for the same money you could buy a PPG uprated kit for the 5 speed which will certainly not break, and not give you any problems with diff ratios, prop shafts or the extra weight of the 6 speed.

what sort of price are we looking at,fitting the gearbox and rear diff?.with my gearbox whining now.is that serious? i was thinking about the boost in running now 1.46 bar will that kill my pistons.there the 2005 wrx pistons?
