Default cambelt tensioner on 97 uk turbo

I have a 97 uk turbo - catalunya, The cambelt tensioner made up of two parts, the pulley and the hydraulic tensioner. The bearing in the pulley is ever so slightly gritty so ive decided to replace this. Is it possible to remove the bearing from the pulley part and fit a new bearing? or are the bearings an awkward size? i can get the set for £82 just wondered if there was a cheaper way before i bought it, cheers Rory

Not sure on this one, I recently changed one of the pulley bearings when I change the cam belt on a STi. It wasn't the tensioner one though. I would take it to a bearing supplier and see if the nos. on it make any sense. Cost me £8 for the bearing, It needs carefull pressing in and out so if you know someone with a hydraulic press have a go. I would say Yes.
