Driving in Limp Mode!...Can it do any damage?
My 93 Classic is in Limp mode due to the knocklink sensor gone on the blink. (new one on the way, comes tues next week)
Can driving in Limp mode too long be anything to worry about ( even though its there to preserve the life of the engine!) I'd say im running on 70% of the engines normal power.
What exactly is Limp mode? i.e. does it cut fule supply?
any help would be appriciated
cheers lads

a faulty knocklink will not put your car into limp home mode as it isnt connected to your ecu. If you are in limp home mode then there is something else wrong. Reset your ecu first, then go for a little drive and then check for error codes and see what it brings up.
Limp mode basically occurs because the ecu has detected a problem, so therefore tries to restrict the output of the engine to try and preserve itself.

Hi
Same thing happened to me ,about 2 weeks ago faulty knock sensor seemed to shutdown my power to about 75%. According to the garage I take my motor to, the motor shuts down to safe mode as it were, told not to rev past 4000 and drive steady.
Got it sorted out and new unit fitted and all error messages cleared £135.oo all in at TSL in Keyworth, Notts

Well i ran the error codes and it threw up the knocklink.So......surely the ECU is picking up that code from somewhere is it not? The ECU must be connected to the senors or else there would be no sensors!!..Im not saying im right and im not trying to be clever jay. If anyone else could shed some light on this subject it would be most useful.
thanks Jay

It sounds like your getting yours wires crossed a bit. A knocklink is an aftermarket monitoring tool that is totally independant of your cars ecu, and isnt standard. It does sound like you mean the knock sensor (which the subaru has and which is connected to the ecu) that has gone. Bit of crossed wires I think eh?
