Default JDM Inlet Manifold Question

Hi,

Currently running a MY02 STI Type UK.

Are there any benefits in changing the inlet manifold to the JDM version ?

Am currently running:

FMIC/20G/Headers/3" Exhaust/650cc injectors

Could the JDM inlet complement this ?

Any advice welcome.

Thanks.

The JDM Sti inlet has no TGV valves to clog up the flow path but will need a CEL fix for the lack of throttle positioners and valve motors.
The divider walls of the TGV body can be removed and the whole thing ported.
Plenty of info on NASIOC on TGV removal and benefits.
I found the inlet body outlets were much smaller than the entrance to the TGV body so needed some porting up.
Otherwise the whole assembly is as per the UK one.

Thanks Butty.

Can the TGV valves be removed from the UK Inlet , or is it just easier to source the whole inlet and replace it ?

Yup, the butterflies can be taken off the spindles which can then be feathered down to a low profile.
The divider walls are then hacksawed off and cut away/ported so that there's no need to have any CEL fix as you retain the sensors.
The Spec C inlet - if you can get hold of one - is a single casting as per a classic inlet so doesn't need any fettling with other than a CEL fix.

Nick -THANKS. More questions (hope you don't mind)

1. By removing the TGV's, what exactly is this going to do for me ?

2. I assume I'll need another remap ?

Mark,

I guess the TGV assembly takes up 5-10% of cross section area. It may not be crucial on mildly modded cars, perhaps even causing problems as the air velocity is reduced for the same air flow rate.
Looking at your spec and if further mods are planned then having the ability to flow more air through the TGV body will be helpful.

I've never seen any flow rig results for this mod on its own so I can't give actual improvement figures.
I only did it because I was going to pull quite a bit of the car apart anyway and the inlet swap appeared to be easy as a result.

A remap will be needed to get rid of the CEL light, although there are mechanical fixes from APS/Perrin.
