Question ECU Codes 23, 32, 11 & 12 on MY99 Turbo - Help

I was driving down the motorway the other day and may "Check Engine" light came on just as i was hitting boost.

I have read my ECU codes and the following 4 were logged

23 - MAF
32 - Oxygen Sensor
11 - Crankshaft Position Sensor
12 - Starter Switch

Few questions:-

I was expecting the MAF fault as i know this is a common fault on my age car. Is the O2 sensor error a result of MAF failure?

Is the crankshaft position error a result of me disconecting it when servicing last week?

What is the starter switch?

has the car gone into limpmode ?

this would show as your only able to drive with half the boost of normal 0.5

if the car runs fine it could be old error codes, try clear them and see how the car behaves

i would try clear the codes then and see how it behaves

if your MAF or Lambda failed it would go into limpmode

the symtoms of a MAF or lambda about to fail could be overfuleing and the car would feel like it has more power then usual

How do i reset my ECU?

Do i :

1) Warm engine up to normal operating temp
2) Connect the 2 black connectors and 2 green connectors together under the steering column
3) Turn ignition on
4) Press accelerator all the way down
5) Then lift to half way
6) Wait for Engine Check Lamp to come on
7) Start engine
8) Drive for at least one minute taking it easy
9) Wait for Check Engine Light to flash continuously and evenly
10) Turn off engine
11) Un-plug connectors under the steering column
12) Job done

Does this sound right to you.

Sounds about right

Remember you'll hear a lot of 'whirring and clicking' going on which is normal.

Think i'm gonna get a new MAF and Lambda 1st then reset the ECU and see if the other codes are still there.

Cars got 60,000 on the clock and as far as i am aware is on original MAF and Lambda

Im changing mine, same year as yours. Looking about £200 for both of the Maf and Lambda so make sure you need them. Id do as the others say and clear your codes first to get an idea of whats actualy going on.

It £75 for MAF from Dealer and about £35 for a Lambda sensor

£200 is a bit steep

Default same issue?

Hi there think I need to reset the ECU as well re my issue http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...84#post5221884

2) Connect the 2 black connectors and 2 green connectors together under the steering column
(are these just 2 plugs that need connecting together then or do you need to use jumper wires?) is this the same on all scoobys as I have a 2001 WRX bugeye.

fingers crossed after reset all should be ok, otherwise I will get the codes and post them onto here....

cheers Larsdowg/Rick

DOH!!!! looks like I might have to use a tool.......or something unless anyone else knows.

was gonna take it down well lane turbo in Batley as thehy chipped it to 265bhp and this should be a walk in the park for them shouldnt it.

it was easier to do on the old FTO but then again that wasnt as much fun to drive

Spoke to my subaru dealer today and he's quoted me £72 for a new MAF sensor but he says in need a new tube that it mounts to @ £60 because they have revised it.

Has anyone heard this before?

I believe they have changed the design due to so many failures on 99/00 years

Default no fault codes

I looked under the steering column an didnt find any lose black cables but found 2 green that looked just like the ones pictured http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....connectors.jpg

so plugged them in and follwed the instructions from http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....htm#_ECU_Reset

everything behaved as it said it would in the intructions, but no error codes logged, however engine light is still on once unplugged so what could this be now?

Should I be worried? havent been driving it above 3000 revs.......

thanks Rick/Larsdowg

They revised the MAF itself, but I've not heard anything about the pipework. It's worth double-checking with the Dealer and agreeing that if it's the same item (and don't need it) then you won't pay for it.
