Scoobymonitor - quick question
Very quick one.
I've built the "scoobymonitor".
I thought I would connect up a 12V battery to the power and earth connectors , just to see whether I got anything on the LCD , (before I go connecting it to my precious scoob ECU ... , just to make sure it looks healthy).
The thing powers up , and flashes a quick stripe of black LCD "Bocks" aross the bottom row,.. then puts a few blocks in the top row , and doesn't do anything else.
Anyone know whether it has to actually correctly start talking with ECU before it shows anything intelligible ?
Cheers - Mark

It won't do anything unless it's connected to an ECU, what it is actually doing is continually resetting itslef trying to sync with the Select Monitor port.
There is a test program on the website, if you program the chip with that then you can check that the PCB is built correctly and that the LCD and switches are working.

I guess to do that , I will need to
1) build the programming interface connection (obviosuly) ..so far have not done this , as you kindly programmed the chip prior to sending to me.
2) Download the relevant fiel onto the chip itself. (What software do I use to do that ? is it Bascom AVR ?)
Many thanks once again - Mark
