Default Fitting Mods

Hi,

Just looking for some opinions from the more mechanically minded amongst you.

I'm in the process of buying various upgrades for my 2002 WRX (full exhaust system inc up pipe and headers, TMIC, turbo, fuel pump). I'm considering getting a local reputable garage to fit these mods before I have the car remapped. This is because there are no specialist garages in my area.
The only possible problem is that this garage is not known for working on Subarus. Do you think I would be wise to ask them to carry out the work?

yeah, go for it. It's a lot easier if the scoob is your second car. i have a work car then the scoob is worked on in the evenings. Its nice when you have done the work yourself. you know its going to be done right. To be honest though, if you have never worked on a car the scoob is not the best to start with.

A lot of the work listed above could be done by a competant home mechanic so you would save money. The biggest draw back is that if you do not have a ramp, it can become labourious.
You have listed your intended mods but unless they are all selecyed to compliment each other you will not achieve optimum results.
I have no idea where you are located but it is worth grtting the work done by people with Sybaru experience. They know the work intimately and have been through the learning curve of how to do it.
Finding someone with the correct knowledge AND attitude is the key to getting a good job at a reasonable price within the previously agreed timescale.
fitting an exhaust can be done by anyone but once you move on from there it is worth travelling to get the right guy to do the work, even if it means coming home on the train and leaving the car for a few days.
Where are you located?

true enough Harvey,
I learnt the way round most of my car by inviting a couple of local scoobynetters round for bacon sandwiches, selectively inviting the ones who had already done the same mods was a fluke/stroke of genius

Thanks for the replies.

I don't have any experience of working on cars or have any of the gear required, so I don't fancy taking too much on myself.

Harvey, I live in Dumfries in SW Scotland. I think leaving the car somewhere for a few days could be the answer. Cheers for the sound advice.

Dumfries, hmm I'd recommend Greer sport, they are South of Glasgow airport somewhere on the road to Irvine. That can't be too far from you ?

It should be all done comfortably within one day.

Get a quote first as a mechanic who is not too familar with Subarus may take considerably longer to do it, and consequently charge you more.
