An STi 03 will have the nitrided cross drilled [ extra oil holes ] crank if it's a Jap spec. This can be checked by the black coloured webbing on the crank shaft. If it's shiny silver then it's no great shakes.
Neilo is correct the JDM 03 Vers 8 short motor has complete rubbish pistons in it and they will fail quite quickly if abused in a P1. Version 7 does have Subaru forged alloy pistons which are far superior, but it doesn't have the nitrided cross drilled crank.
If you can get it cheaply then it'll be worth it for the correct crank and bearings and rods. The block, if it has little or no wear, will also go well into a P1 but forget using the pistons that come with it. Just make sure you get it at right money.
If it's a UK sti then you will be worse off than you are now

The block will be semi-closed deck (i.e strengthening webs between the inner and outer walls off the water jacket) and it should have 2 breathers coming from the upper crankcase. one the same diameter and place as on your classic (i.e near no.3 cylinder) and a second smaller one central that sits under the inlet manifold. you will need to block this off or pipe it into your existing breather.
STI 8's are like this, pretty certain V7's are the same.
