i have loads of questions about my 1.8i impreza gl. i havent had the car long but i have noticed steam coming out of the bonnet after a bit of a thrashing and a strong smell of burning (almost rubbery). it also has benn getting much harder to put into 1st gear than when i first got it. i think its clutch related but not sure, please help.

also i know my impreza model is quite a rare one and finding bits and pieces for it seems hard, do the 2 litre ones share parts with my 1.8.

if anybody can help me then it would be grate, thanks for your time and hopefully helpful information.

so long as the engine isn't actually overheating then the steam might be coming out of a knackered radiator cap. Lift the bonnet, see where the steam is coming from, and if it is from the radiator cap then replace it. You should be able to get one from any car parts shop, universal fitting.

 

Sounds like you are slipping or roasting your clutch !! It will stink !!
If it wont go into first gear then your clutch is probably the problem, i.e worn plates.

Not sure on the compatibility issue.

 

is ur rad cracked on the end tanks? drivers side?

Depends on what bits you want to fit. Quite a lot is interchangable between 1.8 and 2.0 non-turbo and even the turbos.

www.imprezasport.net is another forum that is more geared towards non-turbos but less popular than Scoobynet. There are a few 1.6 and 1.8 owners on there (including me ) that should be able to help you with questions specific to your model.

Are you sure it's steam (i.e. coolant related) or could it be smoke from roasting the clutch?
