Default Oil advice required - Please no fighting !

Hi one and all,

It's that time again for my 6 monthly oil & filter change.

Please could someone advise me which oil to use in my MY2000 Bugeye wrx (uk) Wagon.

Normal driving style until the twisty's, then it's time for fun. No mods.

Good quality fully synthetic required.

Last Subaru dealer service I supplied my own Mobil 1 and they said it was the wrong type and they would not take responsibility if it damaged the engine, so no more of that.

Remember, no fighting !!

Cheers,
Graeme.

If you want a *real* fully synth oil, then it has to be Silkolene Pro S or Motul.

Graeme.
So why don't you just buy what Subaru recommends then?

Hi NSO4,

Yes, those are the two names that keep cropping up, but I would like to know the correct specs for my Scooby - i.e. - 10w/40, etc. There are a few different views on the subject.

Thanks for the info,
Graeme.

Here we go !!

Hi Steve,

Picture the scene ......

A man loves his car more than the wife. It's like a mistress. You want to spoil it.

He wants to put the best oil in the car that he can afford, even though he knows that a cheaper oil would "probably" do the same job.

It's difficult to explain, I hope you understand.

Graeme.

5/40 or 10/40 are both OK for Bugeyes - but note that owners manual recommends 5/30. I supplied Silkolene ProS 5/40 for dealer at last service, who acknowledged that this was a fine oil indeed. Next time however, I'm letting dealer put in their own sourced fully synthetic which should conform to Subaru instructions. This should be fine for my unmodified car which is usually driven with sympathy. 15/50 is recommended for the more modded, harder driven and older high spec. classic cars apparently.

My vote for best and most appropriate would go with Silkolene ProS 5W40 - the spec. conforms to 'API Service SJ or SH' as stipulated by the owners handbook for an early bugeye like mine (and yours).
