Default Unequal length manifold.

Will this do damage if i fit it? Car is already running a Front Mount, Janspeed decat downpipe and a Blitz Nur Spec exhaust. I know i should get it mapped but i can afford to at the moment and i certainly cant afford an engine rebuild.

IMO:
If that is the extent of your mods and you can find £350 for some DECENT headers (ie Gruppe S) and wrapping, I would get some ported cast headers done by Harvey for about £150 (best check with him) and spend the difference on a remap (not sure you would really need it)
I think from what I have done and read you will find the ported headers will give a better mid-range torque over the tube headers.

Harvey is an arrow straight guy with no messing about. You might also spend a bob or two on his demon up-pipe to complement the headers..?

An alternative is to call David at www.apiengines.com and chat to him. Again a bullsh!t free zone so no rip-off.

Graham.

You don't need any fancy chips to get it re-mapped on the later cars, i don't know if ecutek have got it sorted for the older ones. I think it was pre98 cars couldn't be re-mapped on a standard ecu, but that was a good while ago so it may well be changed now. You can get an apexi power fc (ecu) and mapped for a reasonable price, not much more than an ecutek remap.

Simon your car is a Version 6, which can have the standard ecu remapped using ecutek software.

Or for near enough the same money you could trade in your current ecu and get an Apexi+commander fitted and mapped by Andy.F as i did.

Aftermarket headers without a remap will lose you a bit of mid-range, but gain at the top. Make sure you are monitoring for det though. Better fit the headers and a remap IMHO

whats the relative benefits regarding an ecutek remap and a apexi with commander? which is better when the car has been modified? or do they both do the same thing but in different ways?

Same thing in different ways. But with the Apexi you also have the option to remap yourself should you choose to (extra cost). Best is to find a mapper you trust, and go with what he recommends....it's all in the mapping, more than the technology.
