Default Remapped

I'm ready to be called stupid here.
I a few months ago I took my MY00 uk turbo to chipped uk for a remap http://chippeduk.com. All the mapper did was plug a laptop in to the obd then work his magic. It did feel quite a lot better when he'd finished. Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on what he did as i've heard people say that you cant map a scoob like that.

Since then my maf and lambda have died and been changed. I dont know if i'm imagining it but it doesn't seem to go as well. - Got a mis fire when cold and damp so off to check the plugs etc

Hi m8, on that type of yr car i'm sure it dosn't get chipped they call it a tek 3 remap beacause the actual ecu can be remapped hence no need for a chip, the best thing you could do would be to take to someone with a vast knowlodge of doing tek 3 remap's on scoobs as there is alot of people who could do them but scoobs can be funny buggers so take it to a scoob specalist, you want to talk to people like Simon AKA Jolly Green Monster of andy F as these guys know every thing there is to know about remapping scoobs

Phil, do you have any other mods and any way of monitoring your engine, knocklink, AFR gauge?

If your car was mapped with failing sensors then there's a good chance your fueling is out so I'd suggest getting someone with a copy of DeltaDash and a wideband to take a log to be on the safeside.

For reference, ECUs using the OBDII protocal can be accessed with various 3rd party applications such as EcuTeks flash software and the internal maps adjusted to suit your particular vehicles set-up.

If the AMF was failing it could of gradually be running lean and hence quicker without you noticing it.

Replacing the MAF should now give you the correct fuelling and hence it may feel a little slower.

Cheers for the input guys.

No real mods apart from a green panel filter and a straight through magnex after the down pipe.
I dont think its running lean cuz it was using loads more petrol. Changed the maf and lambda and its back to normal.
I've not got a knock link i heard they have a bad rep. Only got a boost gauge (peaking at 1bar) and oil temp gauge. I've been thinking bout getting a lambda link (if they're any good?). Any other suggestions of diagnostics on a modest budget?

I wonder why

Sounds to me like you didn't get a remap, but some global tweak of ignition timing and fuelling. An ecutek remap, the type you pay £550+ for is not a quick fix from a laptop, it should be tailored to your individual car, and takes at least 3 hours.

At the end of the day, the knocklink is only a sensor. At the very worst, it'll make you paranoid about your engine, at the very best, it may save it.

I got mine fitted today. If you're going to modify your car, taking some extra steps to keep an eye on things is perfectly sensible IMHO. If I'm wrong, at the very worst you'll have a set of LEDs that don't do anything and PSLewis saying "I told you not to waste your money".

If I'm right......

This really surprises me, I know Jayson the founder of Chippeduk and the guy really knows his stuff.

I would certainly give him a call and air your concerns, he's a reasonable guy.

I agree with what your saying bout the knock link. I've thought about getting one, but i don't really want to spend 80 or 90 quid if they aren't great. I did a search and i thought i'd be better off getting a lambda link or afr gauge.

Knocklink is money well spent and alot better then a lambda link.
These only use the narrow band lambda sensor and although they do provide a level of confidence their not that acurate.
The only AFR worth it's money that uses the narrow band is the autometer. At least this one looks nice and suprisingly it's cheaper the the DIY look Lambdalink.

I can't say either way. Ask him what he did, but AFAIK Ecutek is the only way to go with the factory ECU with the degree of control that i would say is necessary for £550 results. It's worth asking your mapper/chipper as they will, I am sure, listen to your concerns.

Scott - I'm not sure, he's moved on to bigger stuff since I last seen him.

He chipped my BMW some time ago and the results were very good.

He can be found at www.e36coupe.com as chippeduk if anyone want's to ask
questions
