Default engine noise

Hi been reading the threads on here concerning engine noise when the engines cold and wondered if anyone could tell me what the difference between piston slap and big end noise is and do they both go away when the engines warm

anyone will know a big end when its gone... very distinctive sound, piston slap is fairly quiet when idling cold but as soon as u blip the throttle its get louder and then goes quieter again. big end is bad all the time, hard to describe the sound in text!

In my experience big end is normally a rumbling/banging noise, generally under load.. Piston slap usually is worse when cold and more of a rattley noise.

I reckon if the noise goes away on a warm engine it's near certain to be piston slap. Also, even slight big-end knock will rapidly lead to total failure.

If you have a little knocking when cold which disappears when fully warmed, probably piston slap and not the end of the world..... not ideal but could be worse. My MY98 suffers from it (as do all it seems)

Best of luck mate !!
