Default who is the best ecutek mapper?

<opens up can of worms>

I have decided i'm going to get this done to my new toy but after reading so much on here about remaps this and thats am thoroughly confused about who should get the job.

I am based in Cambridgeshire but not scared of travelling and would be fun to give it a proper road run on the way home.

Heard so much about Powerstation and speaking to them, they really seem to know what they are doing, but is there much of a difference between what they will do and map it to or what TSL or Zen or any other mapper will do? I presume that all of them will map to what I would like my car to drive like and behave in general.

Please be gentle

Best? don't think there could ever be an answer to that one mate! do a search on here and read what people say about the mappers, you will see the same names come up again and again, there have been a lot of threads on the subject so you won't be short of views..

I've been trying to search and the name that keeps coming up is Powerstation. Is there any way to compare the likes of them and TSL or Clive Atthowe in Norwich (my local one) or is it purely personal experiences?

There's some good mappers around (most post on here) and for me it would be one of three (the one being based in Swindon..!)

Thumbs up PE

I say PowerEngineering.

The Reason: The Ecutek software was originally developed at PowerEngineering (PE) by Mervin Caroll and a customer (sorry can't remember his name).

Once they realised what they'd created Mervin Caroll, Dave Power (founder of PE) and the Cutomer named it Ecutek and the rest is history.

They moved into the office next door to PE and that's where Ecutek has been run from ever since.

All developement work and testing of the ecutek software is done at PE so who better I say, especially when the developers are only next door!

Give Chris Todd @ PE a bell 01895 255 699

my06 sti 2.5 type UK

mods so far:
green air filter
tsl de-resonated centre pipe
tsl group N 4" backbox

only cos std car is soooooo quiet really and this brings the burble back to life - but a bit a extra ooomph has been gained i think although not sure how much yet.

also got piaa wiper kit and piaa extreme white HB3 bulbs to match the HID's on dip

i love the extra torque from the 2.5 over the old 2L sti 03 i had but it could easily be improved when you get greedy.

I would say Pat or Andy F abve all others. have had bad experiences with some big names that i don't want to go into further, but it means I couldn't recommend anyone else.

I haven't used andy personally, but I know that he knows a lot about mapping, and a lot about the entire cars, plus he is a clever enough guy to see the whole picture when it comes to everything in the car.

Go on tell us

Andy F is extremley respected on here but maybe he is a little too far away.
CW42 had his STi mapped at Powerstation when he won the comp and his engine is a peach!!! lovely and torquey and quick pumping out over 330bhp - i'm sure he will recommmend Powerstation

Hmmm...so wrong

It was developed by an individual not related to PE who then approched them to take it further, Dave Power realising the potential invested in the project and sold PE to found EcuTEK with this person, taking Merv with him.

PE's own work brought us the 'PE phase 1' and the less said about that the better!

It's also worth pointing out the Pat and Bob have both had considerable input into further developments of the EcuTEK software where they have found issues with it out in the field.

Everyone will have their own favorites and some people will go to extremes to rubbish the work of various mappers, IMHO Pat, Bob, Andy and Paul are currently the most competant EcuTEK mappers around

Stephen Done was his name.

fullcredit to the guy for the excellent job he has done, but I am pretty sure he wont profess to be a mapper, he is a software engineer and has done and continues to do a great job.

I think you will find the people who develop the software for the best ecus in the world are not mappers either, but software developers funnily enough. I would expect them to liase with the mappers to produce the right product.

Not taking anything away from Merv though, he is a mapper.

i like the idea of having the before and after dyno readouts to see exactly where it has changed although actual driving is the only real judge.

i am gonna take advantage of a PS group buy and take it down there - have not heard anything but good about them and speaking to them was a pleasure - very knowledgeable and patient even with my total noob questions
