Default Help, inlet pipe..

I have just broken off part of the moulded turbo intake pipe on my 98, the plastic seems to have got brittle with the years.
I think I will need to replace the whole turbo inlet pipe,
1.Will I have to remove the manifold or will it slide through ?
2.Is it difficult to do, doesn't look too bad...
3.What would I have to remove etc in order to do..

Its not the first time plastic parts have snapped either, be careful....I thought I was !!

Can I get the new inlet pipe in place without removing the inlet manifold ?

You can if you are
patient
small of hand/long of fingers
bullit proof knuckles...

Did mine but you will know you have done it after. you could lift the manifold, but try the hard way first imho.
Joking aside, try a good smear of wd40 etc to help slide it all in.
Using a samco hose is actually easyier.

Graham, just the news I wanted to hear, thanks. I will give it a go when the replacement arrives !

For a moment there, I was getting concerned that I would feel obliged to do the fuel rail modification etc with the manifold off !

The power steering pump will have to be moved and then a matter of removing all pipes (dump valve connection looks tight) and hopefully sliding or cutting the thing out and then getting the new one in ?

I thought a samco hose caused a loss in torque and possibly running lean when fitted to a standardish impreza ?

Samco inlet pipe that goes under the manifold shouldn't do that, as long as you haven't got one of the old ones that was prone to collapsing. Mine gave mild improvements throughout the range, and noticably improved spool up (perhaps 100rpm earlier).

Changing the hose the MAF mounts in is perhaps more likely to give problems, though I haven't heard of that specific issue.

PS I changed mine without removing the inlet manifold (02WRX). It is possible, but took a lot of twisting, pushing, swearing and bleeding knuckles to achieve it, probably took me about 1 1/2 hours to do the change by the time I'd fought the old one out and the new one in.

Sorry hades, my mistake realised it was only with cone filter and bell plus samco http://www.steve.ukmail.org/car/ then intake hose

I am going with an original replacement hose and hope that I can get it in without breaking off any of the ports !!

Good luck!

The modern Samco's are tripple wall so very stiff.
The difference between stock and samco is huge when side by side.
I uaes a samco as I had a TD05 20g on the car which the stock inlet pipe probably will not fit without tearing.

Get the band-aid plasters ready....I remember well!

@ £200? That's what they can cost....
Just take your time and don't loose your patience or you will break things.
We've all been there i assure you.
