Default When on a long journey

ok drove from home (seaton delaval) too gainsbourgh (1st day) total 200+ miles, i noticed the temp gauge now no longer reaches half way up, as it did b4 my families jaunt out, heat still comes out the vents, needle doesnt rise even ifheaters aint on, its like, 1/4 of the way is the highest its gonna go

now in total i drove nigh on 600miles and used £49 quids worth of petrol, noticed the needle when i stopped at scotch corner and found out texaco sells 97ron, so i shoved a bit of that in, and its from then the needle wouldnt rise

any1 got any ideas pls, coz im totaly confused

600 miles on £49 of petrol? What did you do rope a truck and get pulled along. I am doing well to get 250 miles on 3/4 of a tank. Thats confusing me.

will have to try it and see if I get better economy. I can't see why having put 97 ron in how that would make the temp gauge display differently. Unless you were on 95 ron before. Have you done any work on the cooling system because what might have happened is you could have had some air in the system which came out near to the time when you filled up. Apart form that not a scooby.

It could be that the sensor or the gauge has gone up the swan. To check the gauge get someone to put the wire at the sensor to the engine block whilst you watch the gauge with the ign on. The gauge should go to max as temp. Saying that though when I fitted my driving lights Subaru used a weird system on the headlight wiring so god knows what else they will have done. If not ask at your local Subaru garage if they can put the diagnostic on, mines done it a couple of time and not charged.
