Default Remap

I have an MY04 STI with PPP. What ECU will this have, and can it be remapped? With just a straight remap to run on Optimax, what kind of power/torque figures would be likely?

More controversially (and probably better suited to insurance forum), have people told their insurance company about remaps?

You MUST tell the insurance company-there are no two ways about it. If you are found to not have declared a mod, they will not pay out on a claim and you may be prosecuted for driving without valid insurance. Some people will argue that you most likely won't get found out with ECU mods, I'd argue, can you afford to take the chance?

It's already mapped to run on Optimax.

I told my insurance company after the remap (Admiral) and they didnt have a clue what I meant, but they had already loaded it for exhaust, window tints and changed interior anyway but I hassled them to add ECU remapping to the list of mods.

What would happen if you bought a car through a second hand dealer and it had been remapped but the dealer didnt know - which is quite likely I should imagine as if I traded mine in at say a VW dealership I would be unlikely to say it's been remapped as they would probably not accept it then. You often see ppl on here selling bits saying 'returning car to standard' and I can only think they mean for trading in, but do they return the mapping to standard ?

That's true, but it's a "one size fits all" map. I think scud8 is looking for a "bespoke" map.

Would that be bespoke to that type of fuel, the weather that day, the driving that's done that day and the condition that the engine's in that day? Or would he rather have something that copes with the occasional tank of 95RON, can be driven safely away from a traffic jam at 35C ambient, won't overboost when it rains, get cooler or goes dark and doesn't run the turbo like a jet engine on full reheat........

Sorry guys - didn't mean to start a fight!

Having done a bit of reading around, it sounds like the ECU can be remapped using Ecutek software (or others?), but it's not clear whether this would reliably yield any more power/torque without other supporting mods.

I'm definitely not interested in anything that will overstress other components - I've already had one (unmodified) Scooby engine blow on me (my old STI v5), but fortunately car thieves were driving at the time!
