Default VF29 and VF22 hybrid?

Hello,

I have both of these turbos and was wondering if it is possible to use the compressor and cover from the 22 on the 29.

My thinking is that I would have better flow with reduced temps if I use the P18 with the 22 compressor. Also spool would be better than a standard 22?

I will be looking (as I know the 22 compressor wheel is fragile) to use an AVCR to run 1.3/4 bar mid and tail off to 1.25 ish at the top end.

The car is mapped by AndyF to 1.25 bar as is (At 1.3 bar Andy said it was staring to struggle a bit to keep up the air flow) and runs the following.

Megan headers, wrapped
STI8 IC and modified splitter
Walbro 255lt
440cc inj
APS CAK
3" catted Zerosports downpipe to 2.5" magnex system.

Any thoughts? bear in mind I dont want to buy a 20g etc just yet.

Cheers,

Wayne.

It's easier to take the P18 housing of the BF29 and bolt that to the VF22, the exhaust wheels are the same size.

The VF22 compressor wheel however is very weak, and prone to chipping/flying appart with anything over 1.2 bar being asked of it

What you're looking at is very close to the MD304 turbo, although that has a larger Garrett compressor wheel fitted and a ported exhaust housing. That turbo is really the equivalent of a TD05 16G...if a little livlier in the mid range and also capable of flowing more air for the given boost pressure...ie 350 brake is acheivable with around 1.25 bar boost

If you want it converted properly it's probably worth having a chat with Mark of Lateral Performance, seeing as he developed the MD304

Wayne,

You need to be very careful if you fit the P18 exhaust housing to the VF22, this is why I didn't mention it in the email.

The VF22 compressor wheels are notoriously very fragile, and if you fit the smaller P18 exhaust housing, you can easily over speed the turbo, and lunch the compressor wheel.

You may well get away with it, but it's not something I can "recommend" you do.

Mark.

Mark,

I see exactly what you are saying.

Deadbolt have said that they can machine my housing and middle section (not sure if thats the back part of the housing) and supply a PE1820 clone compressor wheel.

Only problem is sending the turbo to the US.

Price is £200 inc return shipping. I have to pay to get it there.

Is this a good deal?
