Default Chiped ECU question

I have just bought a 1997 UK Turbo

My mate also has a 1997 UK Turbo, he has load of mods done including a GEMS ECU by Steve Simpson of TEG.

Before fitting the GEMS they rolling roaded it and it was 297bhp with the std ECU, which they could believe.

When removing the old ECU it was found to have been Superchipped.

My mate has offered me this for £100.00, is it worth it and will it fit straight on to my car. is it just one out one in via a plug or will i need to get someone to do it for me.

Staffy

if it is a superchips jobbie, then I personally wouldnt touch it as the boost // ignition maps will/should have been tailoured to your friends car which you say has loads of mods
Big risk IMO

They ECU was on the car when he bought it and it was std or so he thought, until the ecu was removed for the gems.

He added all the mods to the car with the std ecu in place then removed a week or so later for the gems, so the car ran sweet with it in as standard and he had no problems with the running of the car or owt?? what you think

personally if it is a superchip then I wouldn't touch it. (from my experience with superchips many years back). Did your friend not also have a bleed valve on the turbo, as quite often with superchips they use a bleed valve and use a resistor to up//remove the fuel cut

Its upto you though if you want to try it.

you may hit the immobiliser problem also as I believe most of the uk97~98 have the immobiliser on the ecu.. and therefore your key will not remove it..

Depends if you have immobiliser or if the car the ecu came from did have.

Superchip for Scoobs is not a chip but a resistor which acts as a fuel cut defender and a bleed valve. No fuelling or ignition modifications are made
