Default Belt squeal or squeak?

Does your car scream like a lamb in a slaughter house?

Mine started intermittently and recently has been suffering from belt squeal all the time.

A squirt of WD40 would cure it for about 5 minutes then it'd return.

Today I took off the aircon belt tensioner wheel and cleaned out the bearing by giving it a wd40 'bath', this cleaned out a ton of cr4p from the bearing and completely freed it up. Took about an hour and was simple enough to do.

And the result of said work was no more squealing!

Now I'm happy

Cheers
Dave

Mine also squeals like a b!tch a lot of the time!

I will give this a go when it comes back from the garage.

Thanks for the tip

wouldnt WD40 just clean off the grease from the bearing.

ok it would not squeal for a while but then the WD40 would evaporate and the bearing will get hot very quickly, dont really know if applies to the air con bearing though.

was it the actual aircon pulley squealing or the fanbelt? mine sounds like a metal on metal squeal and sound like its coming from the air con pulley.

did you remove the pulley to aply the lube?
thanks,
GAZ

I ended up changing the bearing in the end, got a replacement from a local bearing supplier for £3.50, bearing size code is 6203Z.
I hammered the old bearing out and heated the pulley wheel and froze the bearing so it popped in quite nicely.

Seeing as I was tinkering I decided to replace the belts as well, the alternator belt 5PK0875 was a doddle but the drive belt for the aircon belt was a right **** pain as most places list the belt as 4PK0900 but for the Coolair aftermarket system you need 910 or 915 length belt.

Still, all sorted now. Very easy to do yourself if you have the right bits.
