Leak from under cam casing..DIY job??
Hi all, iv just noticed i have an oil leak from under where the cam belt casing is on my95 wrx and i was wondering if this will be a big job to undertake, ie can the problem be solved while the engine is in the car?
Looks like at a guess its from the cam seal possibly, but il have to take a better look at it to be sure.
Im guessing it wouldnt be wise to try seal conditioners to try and temp fix the problem??
Thanx all

If the drip is in the middle of the engine, then it's ,ore than likely the crank seal on the oil pump, i have mine in bits as i type..... engine still in car.....
if the drip is off to one side, it may be a cam seal, or even the cam cover gasket.... both/all can be fixed with the engine in the car.....

Yea, im sure its coming from the side so it looks like its from the cam seal/cover gasket then.
I was told that when the cambelt is replaced this is what usually causes the cam seal to leak as its been disturbed....Just wondering cause the guy who i bought my wagon from told me it had not long since had a cambelt change..
So im guessing its not a good idea to put seal conditioner in the engine??
Oh and whats a good way of removing the faulty seals then
Cheerz

Well i had a look earlier..took the cam covers off and their was oil stains on both ends at the bottom, so it looks like it might be the cam seals if im correct so how do i go about removing them?

You'll need to remove the front crank pulley, and the cambelt.... oh, but you need to loosen the cam pulley bolts before you remove the cambelt...... i'm sure once you start it'll all make sense...... if you think it might be too much for you..... best to get someone who knows what their at to do it.....
