Default what boost?

I'm contemplating buying a scoob which I have custody off at the moment.

I'm finding it difficult making up my mind.

It originally came from zerosports in Japan and was pretty rampant. it has full zerosports kit, full roll cage, 5 point harness, no rear seats, no carpet and plenty gauges including exhaust temperature etc.

It went to greersport who remapped it, unfortunately the friend i'm buying it from loaned it to someone who greedily turned the boost up to 2 bar and proceeded to melt pistons.

It has a very fancy manifold and an apexi turbo.

It's also got one of those gizmos that look like a remote control.

It now has an sti engine with forged or stainless steel pistons. A front mounted intercooler is still to be refitted and then it's to be remapped again.

I've had it out tonight running 1.2 bar. It feels pretty quick but not as quick as i'd hoped. I raced against an 04 sti and i was creeping up on him but it was pretty much the same. He did have a big blue thing in the middle of his dash though and an aftermarket exhaust so perhaps he's putting out some.

I then raced a pulsar, again I was gaining on him but nothing to write home about. I did notice the odd flame from his exhaust though and he also had some gizmos inside his brief.

Finally I raced an M3, I'm not sure if it was an evo or not though I think it might have been. He did a countdown in sign language at about 40mph and we gunned for it, he took off first and I then overtook him without much problem when I hit fifth gear he began to catch up a bit.

Two questions, roughly speaking, how much brake could I be packing and how much boost do you think it is safe to run?

oh and will the front mount intercooler make a difference?

The car was originally an ra, it has the hatch etc and intercooler fan and waterspray. It also did have buttons for the diff, not sure where they went but there are lights on the dash to do with the diff but I don't have a clue what they mean. The diff is locked at the moment which I think i'd like to change, I'm not really fussed with going sideways.

Can you shed any light on the apexi turbo? Do they make a large range? what's the worst turbo it could be and is it any good?

any advice would be good at this stage as I need to make my mind up.

Thumbs down

Hey, im new here so can't really offer any precise advice but you can learn a lot from just searching for info. Most questions come up time and time again, it helps keeps a bbs fresh rather than the same questions over and over

Best bet is get the front mount fitted, then take it off to your nearest Scoob specialist to get it serviced, tested and mapped. Whatever is the capability of the spec you're running, they will be able to get the most out of it safely and then you will know. Needless to say, 2 bar of boost was fairly hefty for a road going Scooby, especially when its existing tune wasn't really known.
