Cleaning Air Filters
I've got a green panel air filter cos i'm a pikey and thought i'd save money by getting a filter that i can clean every 6 months instead of buying a new 1.
I know 'green' do a cleaning pack of solution and oil (does the oil knacker one of the sensors on scoobs?) but can't be arsed payin 4 that either(these weekend excursions aren't cheap you know ) .....Just wondered if anyone knows what sort of solvent it is they use, and grade of oil????
yours in saving

The solvent is probably a new kind of trichloroethane (thats banned now but there are equivelents). Its usually marketed as electrical solvent or switch contact cleaner. As for the oil some filters that are oiled have been known to damage the MAF (air flow sensor)

Just buy the cleaning kit, why risk damaging the filter using unknown solvents.
The oil is very light and only requires a minimal amount to recover the filter. It's usually coloured green so you can see where you've sprayed it(red in K&N kits)
Also the filter won't need cleaning after 6 months, not unless you live near a desert
