Big end
My 93wrx turbo has a very faint rattling noise when she gets to 3000 rpm i think my big end is on its way out im pretty sure its not the heat sheild i cant afford a rebuild yet still saving is there a thicker oil i cant change to untill i have enough money to go and get dave at api to sort it out.
Sorry to be think but what is the difference 10/60 to say 15/40 which is thicker

Personally its not worth taking the risk of driving if you think the big end is on its way out, so no oil will help you really, only a reshell/rebuild depending on how long you keep driving your car for

A big loud rattle must start as a faint rattle in its early days!!
I always recommend callers to get the noise diagnosed before condemning the big ends, either with us if he car can be got to us or by a professional. The big ends tend to make a noise mid 2000 odd rpms, if it doesn't go away on warm up, then it's likely to be bad news whether it is a broken piston or big ends.
