I'm researching the installation of an oil pressure sender as well. Are you asking the question because your sender won't fit in that location? If so, you can buy a suitable adapter and steel braided hose to move it's location.

is it ok to leave the original sensor disconnected? does the ecu read anything from this?

Yes, just cable tie the old wire to keep it safe. Obviously you will no longer have an oil pressure warning light, but it was useless anyway (it triggers at far too low a pressure).

This site will also help (I'm going to ring Scoobymania on Tuesday to get the bits for my install):

There are several plugs you could use for oil pressure around the block, just pick the easiest one to access and get the relevant bung adaptor.

Had the senders fitted for mine recently at Zen Performance and the solution, due to the size of the sender and the proximity of the alternator, was to remotely mount it using a steel braided hose (made at a hose specialist just around the corner). Existing oil presure warning was retained ( by drilling and tapping into the new sender block, I think), something to do with it being monitored by the ecu I think). Looked like a good solution that they would use again as they had a number of the braided hoses made up.

Hope this helps.

Check out this thread.

This is what I am doing. You might still need an extension pipe but it is easier to get to as the IC is easier to remove than the alternator.
