happened to me to boys on my old scoob. it was a sport and was leaking oil somewhere near the cambelt. having a belly plate didnt help but a decent mechanic took off the belt cover at the top had a feel and found it quite easily.

apparently its a common thing with subarus, just a pain to get to it to find out for sure and costly if you change the cambelt too. i needed a new crank seal and a new pulley too as the old one was all rusted and snapped when being taken off!!!

just be careful where you get your parts. a new pulley cost me £110 for a supposed genuine part whereas on camskill (which are very reputable!!) there round £30...

all in a new seal new cambelt and a new pulley cost me £300 inc labour and untill i crasher her she ran fine. but saying that if i had got a £30 pulley instead i would have paid £250ish instead!!!!

Sorted this problem on my old rb5, cost about £7 for a crank oil seal and £40 for a new cam belt from GGR. Did it myself tho so no labour charge.
If its a bad leak be careful, I filled up with juice once & when I came back to the car after paying it was smoking like f**k in middle of shell garage, the oil was dripping onto exhaust manifold. Had a few worried spectators! !!!
